[KPOP]: Learn more about BTS

For the last few years, when you hear about K-Pop, these guys are the main topic and are generally beloved in the K-Pop scene.

The shining septet composed of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook are taking over the world by storm and are leading the K-Pop movement.

But what makes them who they are today? Consider this a crash course to the world of BTS as we list down 7 trivias that you can bring and unleash to your K-Pop loving friends!

1. No one was from Seoul

Yes, you read that right. Not one member was from Seoul! These boys were raised in the different areas of Korea. The nearest to Seoul would be RM who grew up in Ilsan and Jin who was raised in Gwacheon.

For the other boys  – J-Hope was from Gwangju, Jimin and Jungkook were from Busan, Suga was from Daegu, and V had his time in both Daegu and Geochang.

You may learn more about their upbringings in their song “Ma City” from their 2015 mini album “The Most Beautiful Moment In Life Pt. 2”.

2. They were already mastering their different interests before BTS

Most ARMYs would know how the members of BTS were already shining through the city with their chosen area of expertise and are applauded for it!

Rappers Suga and RM are already underground rappers in their hometowns. Dancers J-Hope is a well-known dancer and is a part of a dance troupe called NEURON in Gwangju and

Jimin was a contemporary dancer and even a top student in an Arts High School in Busan.

Meanwhile, Jin was a theater student in Konkuk University – one of the most prestigious universities in South Korea, and Jungkook, at an early age of 13, tried his luck in a televised singing competition, to which he scored a whopping 7 casting offers from different agencies!

The boys of BTS were already equipped with the skills they needed even before they were trainees!

3. Their journey to stardom has not been the brightest

Considering at that time, their company BigHit Entertainment was not in the best ranks out there.

They were lacking funds, equipment, and space for practice. The boys in their early days into showbiz also had to share one room to sleep in.

There had been stories of unfair treatment towards the boys as well. Way of Crayon Pop attested to this as she narrated in one of her vlogs that BTS weren’t given a dressing room and had to practice in restrooms, greeting respectfully those that come in and then resuming back to their practice.

Hence, BTS were considered to be underdogs in the industry and a lot of insiders didn’t see a bright future for them.  But, that didn’t stop them from releasing the best music they could muster from the tiny recording studios, preparing the best performances in their cramped up practice room in the label, proving everybody who didn’t believe in them and treated them unfairly that they were wrong, and becoming the great artists that they are now today.

4. They have always been hands-on with their music

These guys have been very involved in the production of their music since pre-debut! One of the most known pre-debut songs they did was Satoori Rap which eventually was included in the final tracklist of their 1st Mini Album ‘O!RUL8,2?’ wherein the lyrics were written by the rap line – RM, Suga, and J-Hope, as also part of the announcement for BigHit’s Hit It Audition in 2011.

Going through their discography, you will almost never see the lack of help the boys give in their songs and albums – they are involved in either the writing or the production, or both! It is worth taking note that the all rap line have been promoted to full members of the Korea Music Copyright Association with Suga being a full member since 2018 and J-Hope and RM joining him just earlier this year. This is a big thing because a certain amount of royalties being earned is considered and they are selected and approved by KOMCA’s board of directors! Additionally, the vocal line has multiple songs credited to them and registered in KOMCA as well.

Their upcoming album, BE, has been said to be self-managed by the boys as they insert themselves more in other aspects of the production of the album. In a statement that BigHit released a few days ago, BE promises for the most “BTS-esque” music from the group, so that will be something that we will look forward to!

5. Their message has been very clear since the beginning

As J-Hope would explain their name, Bangtan Sonyeondan or Bulletproof Boy Scouts means that they are resistant to bullets, or the stereotypes, criticisms, and expectations that are imposed on adolescents like bullets and that they are to preserve the values and ideals of the youth to which holds true from the time they started releasing material until now. Their songs and albums openly talk about hardships and struggles of the youth, including societal pressures and mental health. Their message of hope and love has resonated with not only just adolescents, but other generations of people as well, and people have found a safe haven through BTS.

6. ARMY loves BTS and BTS loves ARMY

The amount of love both ARMY and BTS give to each other is immense! BTS does not fail to let ARMYs know of their gratitude and love for them.

Quite uncommon for any other artists out there but multiple songs to honor their fans have been released by the boys – including 2! 3!, Magic Shop, Mikrokosmos, and We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal.

BTS also has been very active on their social media, interacting with their fans when they have the chance to. On the other hand, ARMY has always been proactive in promoting their love for the group by streaming and buying their music and even organizing charity events in honor of the idols!

The amount of love and loyalty ARMY has for BTS and vice versa just always become firmer and stronger each passing day.

7. Bangtan “The First Artist to” Sonyeondan

A lot of unprecedented records have been set by BTS from the 7 years that they have been active as a group so far.

In 2017, BTS has been the first Korean act to be nominated and won a Billboard Music Award! From that point, BTS has been breaking records and winning awards left and right!

For starters, they broke Justin Bieber’s reign in the Top Social 50 and are still on top of the chart. They have also been the first Korean act to have a number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart with Love Yourself:Tear in 2018.

And recently, they have succeeded reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100, stayed for two weeks, and re-peaked along with being number one at the Global 200 and Global 200 excluding US charts!

This goes to show their influence and power and that they worked for all of this to come to fruition. And along with the power of their ARMY, BTS is unstoppable and is just getting warmed up for bigger ventures and achievements in the future.
